As you may know, I'm now hosting the game servers at home. But this Saturday, I'm moving house... And moving house means an internet blackout (thanks Free)!
The game servers are now hosted on a virtual machine at home, via VirtualBox, on my NAS (2500K, 16GB RAM), which has Open Media Vault (OMV, currently based on Debian 9) as its OS. This eliminates the need for a dedicated server, which is good for the wallet.
The server is distributed via a Free fibre connection (near-gigabit down, 350Mbit/s up).

Of course, I chose a home eligible for fibre (Orange, Free and Bouygues). This was an absolute must: once you've had a taste of fibre, there's no going back.
However, when you move house, Free does not allow you to make an appointment to install the fibre box as soon as the procedure is launched. And even if the building has fibre, the flat itself is not yet equipped with the fibre box, so a technician has to come and install it.
Info for those of you who are with Free and are moving: if you benefit from a preferential tariff with Free, this is cancelled when you move. That's nice. You're still committed and if you want to cancel, you'll have to pay a fee. On the other hand, this has yet to be confirmed, but it seems to me that you are disengaged after the move and apparently there is room for negotiation with the cancellation department. To be continued.
Dates and practical information
I'm moving on 27 July and the appointment with the Free technician is scheduled for Friday 2 August Tuesday 6 August at 1pm, after which I should have internet and the game server will be accessible again. However, the connection remains active until the end of the month, and I'm keeping the keys until the first of August. So I'm going to try and leave the server and the Freebox in the flat so that there's as little interruption as possible (24 hours instead of 6 days). But, as you know, moving house is a circus, so there's no guarantee of that.
Also, expect a potential change of IP. I will of course update the various DNS pointings, in particular game.terageek.org if the IP changes.
Now it's time to pack, in a tropical climate of heat and rain. I'm off to get some rest to get things ready!
