Everything I've ever dreamed of as a web administrator, HaiSoft a reality!
HaiSoft is a French web, VM and server hosting company based in Orléans. What could be more natural than to host my sites here? It's now done on one of the company's VMs. The transfer of all my domains, TeraGeek including configuring the mailboxes, DNS and backups took just a few hours... A speed that would have been unthinkable if I'd done it all by hand!
At HaiSoft, shared, VM or dedicated hosting comes with Plesk, a panel that makes life easier for webmasters and reduces sysadmin requirements to a minimum. All services can be managed via the panel, including domains, email addresses, SSL certificates, redirects, sub-domains and much more...
As a result, we now have our own mail server and our own mail addresses that we can create at will, our own webmail, on a secure connection from A to Z! We can also choose our PHP version and updating is easy... MariaDB is used by default instead of MySQL, so that's finally done! Everything is backed up daily on my home NAS in FTPS. HaiSoft also offers an advanced backup service (note that all shared servers are backed up by default), but I manage with my solution, which I find quite elegant.
Among the points that will change my life:
- No more hassle of having to renew TLS certificates (to display the site in HTTPS) by hand!
- Hello security, well-separated PHP services and good rights on files configured by Plesk :D
- No more sleepless nights configuring the mail server (or giving money to gmail)!
- No more virtual hosts (web server config files) to do by hand for each site!
- No more chown/chmod on web server files!
- No more PHP update stress!
- The hassle of configuring your backup is over! Hello daily incremental backup!
For users of the site, you probably won't notice any difference... Just watch out for those who connect to TeamSpeak via terageek.org instead of ts.terageek.org, they'll be in for a nasty surprise, but it won't be for lack of warning!
