Our server or not, here we go! (But our server is on its way...)
Rust, for those of you who don't know, is a... let's call it a sandbox, post-apocalyptic survival game, where you can build your own house and craft weapons, and where you get killed as soon as you turn your back on a stranger. It's a dog-eat-dog world, but one where you can try and build a secure hut as a base... It has a map template that is semi-randomly generated for each server. You can find your bearings more or less quickly, but what's certain is that without a map or a compass, you'll find yourself talking like uncivilised beings when you're trying to find your way around. It's developed by Garry Newman (yes, the creator of Garry's Mod) and can be found for £20 on Steam and £9 at http://gk4.me/fr/steam/527-rust.html. For me, it's one of the best Sandboxes I've tested, although it's still in Alpha version... Note that if you buy on GK4, you'll get a Steam Gift sent to the same email as the GK4 account, so you'll need to use the same email. Also, no notification by email or anything else, it's in your account, after normally 12h max that you'll see the link in " My keys" .
I could describe it to you for hours, telling you that as it's an Alpha, there are still many imperfections and a few bugs... Instead, I'd rather leave you with a little 2-minute video/trailer to give you an idea of what you can do with it...
In any case, let's get our troops together and get to work on this game, which is so much more fun as a team, when you're trying to fend off the voracity of the other players!
The TeamSpeak channel is ready!
As I write this, we've been gathering on the 'community' server called 'Les Tontons Flingueurs' for 3 days, while we wait for our own. So if you're curious (and I hope you are), you might be thinking: But why haven't we got our own yet? 2 reasons: Firstly, technically speaking, because the version of the Rust server for the Linux system (which is what we use for our servers) has not been operational since the switch to the current version of Rust! -More information about the operation here with our dear Daniel Gibbs, who created the administration scripts for our Gmod, TF2, CSS and TeamSpeak servers (no less!)- On the other hand, we don't have too many regular donations apart from a certain generous person, so for the time being, investing in an extra Windows server that might be ephemeral is highly questionable. We prefer to keep it sustainable here!
If you need an insider's tutorial to get you started, it's available on video. I've had a lot of coaching from Black-Wolf, Spirou5 and CireBoubou and now I know a bit more than the basics of the game, so I can farm quickly and become a boss!
